Fire mishaps increase as summer begins
Manama : As summer begins, fire accidents have been noticeably increasing during the past few days. In one such incident, the interior of a local restaurant, Mayoof Restaurant, in the pottery-manufacturing village in the Northern Governorate, was completely gutted by flames on Friday noon.
Interior Ministry tweeted “Civil Defence extinguished a fire in a restaurant in Aali.” Civil Defence teams attributed the mishap to “accumulated oil soot on the chimney.”
Speaking to DT News yesterday, the restaurant owner, Kadhim Mayoof, confirmed that there was no casualty in the fire accident. However, he estimated the losses to be more than BD5,000.
“It occurred around 11am. The restaurant was not opened at that time. There were around nine employees, who were preparing meals, as lunch hours are our busiest time. As soon as they noticed the fire and smoke inside the kitchen, they called up Civil Defence.
The smoke quickly spread inside the kitchen and later in the entire restaurant,” Mayoof explained.
