Bahraini woman gets jail for stealing cellphone
Manama : The High Criminal Court has sentenced a 26-year-old Bahraini woman to six months behind bars for stealing a mobile phone. The woman, who was six-months pregnant, attended the ruling session. Before announcing the verdict, she was seen walking in a very suspicious way inside the courtroom.
She was sent for trial after sneaking inside a Bahraini man-owned house, from which she stole the phone. The woman was identified from the CCTV cameras installed around the house.
When prosecutors checked her criminal history, they found that there were 18 complaints against her, including one from her father, who accused her of using his name and borrowing money from his contacts.
Her husband also filed a complaint against her after she damaged his car and attacked him.
Moreover, she is facing trial for robbing BD3,000 from another house, and stealing a phone from a girl after requesting to make a phone call from it.
The woman reportedly attempted to commit suicide, and tried to run away from a police station.
