Pilot, three asians jailed in drug case

Manama : Three Asian nationals were slapped with heavy jail terms, while a pilot received six months behind bars in connection with a drug peddling case.

The Pakistani men were charged with selling heroin, but their co-defendant (the pilot) was indicted of taking it.

All of them landed in police net after the anti-narcotic department at the Ministry of Interior received a tip-off about their activities.

It was later revealed that there was a drug racket composed of Asian nationals who were smuggling large quantities of heroin into Bahrain.

The first defendant was allegedly the mastermind of the racket, and was handling the business through phone, without meeting any of the customers.

He allegedly asked the customers to transfer money to Pakistan before guiding them to the place where the purchase was left.

The pilot was arrested while on his way to pick drugs hidden in an area in Hidd.

Police officers were surveying the area to nab the mastermind.

The second and third defendants were nabbed after they were seen hiding the drugs. And they later led them to the first defendant.

The latter was sentenced to life in prison, while his accomplices received 15 years imprisonment each.

Along with the jail terms, the Pakistani trio were fined BD5000 each, while the pilot was fined BD1000.
