Two Bahraini boys in custody for killing dogs in Sitra

Manama : The Public Prosecution today questioned two boys suspected of burning and beating to death three dogs in Sitra recently. One of them admitted his role in the crime but his co-suspect denied any involvement, the Public Prosecution said in a statement.

The Bahrainis, aged between 10 to 14 years, will be summoned for further questioning.

They will be referred to a judge and may possibly be detained in the Social Juvenile Care Centre.

The incident was reported to the police by a group of Bahrain-based animal lovers Bahrain Strays after the bodies of the dogs were discovered in Sitra.

DT News had reported on April 23 that the group, that manages a Facebook group, had promised up to BD970 for information leading to the capture of people who killed stray dogs in Sitra.

They had initially offered BD100 for the informer.

There was huge public outcry after the animals were killed last Tuesday in Sitra. Animal activist Fathiya Al Bastaki and other members of Bahrain Strays found the animals killed in the most brutal state - two were slashed and beaten to death while the third was burnt alive.

Fathiya Al Bastaki confirmed that there were about 50 dogs that the Bahrain Strays members feed in the whole Sitra area and the three dogs were found in an industrial area in front of a warehouse in Sitra.
