Suspects jailed for attacking policemen, destroying property

Manama: The Fourth High Criminal Court today sentenced to life in jail three suspects implicated in causing an explosion that wounded a policeman, and possessing and detonating explosives that damaged two police vehicles.

The court also ordered them to collectively pay BD 3,340 in compensation for the damage to two police vehicles, Chief Prosecutor in the Terror Crime Prosecution Isa Al Rowaie said.

The details of the case date to January 10, 2015 when law enforcement officers stationed in Al Shakhoora area to quell acts of rioting and sabotage were attacked by the suspects with Molotov firebombs, steel rods and stones.

As the police were tackling the rioters, an explosive device planted by the suspects in the area and targeting policemen was detonated and resulted in wounding one of the policemen and damaging two Ministry of Interior patrol cars.

In proving the charges against the suspects, the Public Prosecution relied upon oral statements from prosecution witnesses, confessions by the suspects and technical evidences.

The suspects were referred to the Fourth High Criminal Court which considered the case in the presence of the defence attorneys who were provided with all legal sureties and presented their arguments.
