British Embassy celebrates Queen’s 90th birthday

Manama : Over 500 guests joined the British Embassy in Bahrain in celebrating the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II at a garden party hosted by British Ambassador Simon Martin, and his wife Sophie Martin. HH Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa was the guest of honour, representing His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

“Bahrain-UK relations are stronger than ever and our bi-centinniel partneship is thriving,” Shaikh Isa said. “Our socio-economical collaboration and bilateral trade continue to support prosperity in both nations, and our vital defence and security cooperation plays a vital role in protecting stability and peace within the region.”

The theme of this year’s event was the 200 years anniversary of UK-Bahraini relations, launched in January by Deputy King HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

“2016 is a unique year for the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Kingdom, as we celebrate 200 years of friendship,” said Ambassador Martin, “We also mark Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday this year. She became our longest-reigning monarch last year. I am delighted to welcome so many British and Bahraini guests and friends of our two countries to the Queen’s birthday party here in Bahrain.”

Ambassador Martin expressed his gratitude to BAE Systems, EuroMotors, and National Express, for their generous sponsorship of the event. He also thanked the Royal Marines Band and the students of St Christopher’s School Bahrain.
