Eker bombing: Eight get jail in Bahrain

Manama  : Eight defendants implicated in the case of detonating a bomb in the village of Eker have been slapped with severe jail sentences.

Two of them were sentenced to life, while the others were given 15 years in prison each by the High Criminal Court.

A ninth defendant was tried in connection with the case, but he was acquitted due to lack of evidence.

The convicts are said to have constructed several bombs and they planted them in several spots in the village.

According to court files, they lured police officers by rioting in the village, and they triggered one of the bombs with the aim of murdering police officers.

The third defendant was said to have been arrested in possession of a bomb and live bullets, and he guided police officers to a bomb planted in an area, which was ready to be detonated.

The Bahrainis were indicted of participating in an illegal gathering and detonating a bomb.
