Bahraini jailed for forging ID card

Manama : court has upheld the one-year jail sentence of Bahraini man who forged an ID card and added a renowned local surname to his full name.

The defendant was arrested in Kuwait after the police became suspicious of him, court files indicated. The police officers reportedly found that the defendant’s appearance wasn’t a match to the ‘surname’ written on the card.

Thus he was taken to a police station, and contacts were made with Bahrain to ascertain the validity of the ID. The Bahraini police confirmed that the ID was forged and that he was not a member of the family.

The defendant was extradited to Bahrain, and was put on trial. The investigative officers later found that the defendant had rigged the card with the help of a Nepalese man, who allegedly used a scanner.

The latter was also handed down one-year imprisonment and was ordered to be deported from Bahrain.
