Ministry launches ‘Khalifa bin Salman Press Award’

Manama : The Information Affairs Ministry has launched the “Khalifa bin Salman Press Award” to be presented during the Bahrain Press Day.

The Ministry explained that move is part of its keenness on supporting and encouraging all efforts that serve the national press in Bahrain, and out of its recognition of the positive impact of free and transparent press articles in enlightening the public opinion.

It stressed that the awards carries the name of HRH the Prime Minister for his great and unwavering support to the Press and journalists.

All press institutions and journalists in local, weekly or quarterly newspapers or magazines that are issued in Bahrain in Arabic and English may participate in the award with works published between 2014 and 2015. The award will be granted in four categories, namely Best Opinion Column, Best Investigative Journalist, Best Journalistic Dialogue and Best Photojournalism in Political, Economic, Sports and Cultural fields.

The Ministry pointed out that nomination is open between April 20 and May 7, noting that the presented works will be examined by jury comprising high-profile journalists, media persons and academicians.

Those vying for the award should present up to five works within a single category. The award is limited to published articles in the local press in the period between 2014 to 2015, and should not have participated in other local competitions.

Works, which have won press award during a local, GCC or Arab competition, will not be allowed to vie for the award.

The participant will have to take full responsibility if their work has been plagiarised or stolen from a different source with their name attached to it, and if a penalty was found the participant will be disqualified.

Participants should send their work (including necessarily the electronic link) to the award’s website (dm@iaa.gov.bh).

They should provide information about the name of the publication, the publication date, the category and personal information of the applicant.

The Information Affairs Ministry called on the affiliates of the Press community in Bahrain to participate in the award. For more information, they may visit the award’s website or contact it on 17372872.
