Al Noor emerge winners

Manama : Al Noor yesterday clinched the 3-on-3 basketball girls secondary stage title at the Third School Mini Olympics, following a 7-4 win over the New Millennium School-1 in the final match at the Bahrain Sports for Disabilities Federation Gym.

Al Hidd secured the bronze, thanks to a comfortable 8-0 win over Khawla. Early on, Al Noor reached the final with an easy 10-1 win over Khawla, while New Millennium-1 beat Al Hidd 4-1 in the semi-finals.

Um Kulthoom, meanwhile, captured the girls intermediate stage title, followed by the Indian School and Sacred Heart in second and third, respectively.

In the boys events, AMA International School-1 took the boys secondary stage title after defeating Kanoo International School-2 16-6 in the final at the Bahrain Basketball Association Hall in Um Al Hassam.

AMA-2 rounded off the podium after a 9-5 win over Kanoo-1 in the third-place tie.

Awal School-1 followed suit, beating Othman bin Affan 14-10 for the boys intermediate stage gold medal. Abdulrahman Al Nasser School edged Al Raja 15-8 to take the bronze medal.

Earlier, Awal had made it to the final after defeating Abdulrahman Al Nasser 10-3, while Othman bin Affan eased past Al Raja 13-3.

The day also featured the third round of group stage matches of the boys football championships, with four matches played in each of the boys intermediate and secondary stages played at the Bahrain Football Association grounds in Riffa.

Al Noor registered a resounding 10-0 victory over New Millennium in the secondary stage tie. Other matches saw Al Naseem beat the Indian School 2-0, Isa Town defeated Al Hidaya Al Khalifia 3-0 and Al Taawon eased to a 4-0 win over Al Wisam.

In the intermediate stage, AMA scored a whooping 5-0 win over Multinational, British School beat New Millennium 6-0 and Riffa played a goalless draw with the Indian School.

The first of the two-day taekwondo competition begins today from 8am onwards at the Bahrain Handball Association’s gym in Um Al Hassam.

Action also continues today with the opening rounds of the boys and girls taekwondo championships at the Bahrain Handball Association’s gym at Um Al Hassam Sports Complex.
