Two Bahrain Public Security staff acquitted

Manama : The Lower Criminal Court yesterday acquitted two Public Security staff of assaulting prison inmates, Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Deputy Chief Mohammed Khalid Al-Hazaa said.

The Reformation and Rehabilitation Directorate notified the unit on November 19 about a number of policemen allegedly injuring jail inmates.

Based on the notification, two SIU members reported promptly to the directorate and heard the complainants.

The SIU special coroner was commissioned to examine the inmates and report any wounds they might have sustained.

The unit questioned the suspected policemen and remanded two of them in prison pending investigation before referring them to the court that acquitted them of the charges against them.

Al-Hazaa said that the unit is scrutinising the rationale behind the acquittal verdict and will then decide whether to challenge the court ruling.
