Riffa murder : accused claims ‘self-defence’
Manama : A 30-year-old Bangladeshi man suspected of murdering a fellow countryman in Riffa argued that he had acted in self-defence. The 44-year-old victim was killed in Riffa by the defendant, as per court files.
The defendant told prosecutors that he had paid BD1,200 to the victim in order to come to Bahrain. He said he was employed in a construction company, where was working for 15 hours daily, despite that he had an agreement with the victim to work only for eight hours. The mother of the defendant is working in the Kingdom as a maid, and the defendant stated that his victim threatened that he would tell his father that she was involved in prostitution.
“He threatened that he would tell my father that my mother was involved in prostitution,” the defendant told prosecutors. The pair were living in the same room, and the defendant told prosecutors that he was attacked by the victim with a plank.
“He was cooking outside the room, and when he finished he suddenly attacked me with a plank. So I responded with stabbing him with a knife,” the defendant added.
However, a local lawyer close to the victim earlier stated she had received threats from his alleged killer on the eve of the crime. Lawyer Manar Al Tamimi said the alleged murderer and his mother embezzled BD2,000 from the victim. And as a result of his endeavour to enter a legal battle against them, they threatened him, she added.
