Ben Elsworth crowned Masters Champion

Manama : The Royal Golf Club hosted two events last weekend marking the occasion of the annual Masters Tournament which was played in Augusta, US with over 50 golfers competing in a nine-hole competition which was narrowly won by Mohamed Al Sayed (27 on count back).

The runner-up was Abdulla Al Hakam (27) with the same score, while Sanjay Lal (26.45) won the nett category of the event, while Paul Johnson was honoured for taking the most putts in the competition.

On the following day an 18-hole competition, players drew out the name of one of the professionals who made the cut in the Masters tournament prior to teeing off, then their stableford score was added to the professional’s converted stableford score from their last two rounds at Augusta on the Saturday and Sunday to give an aggregate score overall.

After Saturday’s matches it looked as though Rob Lane, whose professional “partner” was Louis Oosthuizen would win the tournament. However, a great final round by Danny Willet on Sunday meant that Ben Elsworth ultimately became the Royal Golf Club’s “Masters Champion” with a score of 32 added to Willet’s scores of 36 and 41 giving an overall total of 109. Lane had to settle for second place with a score of 34 added to Oosthuizen’s scores of 37 and 37 giving him 108 in total.

Royal Golf Club’s maintenance team worked hard to prepare the Montgomerie championship course for the two Masters events over the Masters weekend, delivering extra fast greens speeds to create a real championship feel to the course.
