Indian Embassy's Ram Singh to leave Bahrain today

Manama : After three years of service to the Indian community here, Indian Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Ram Singh is leaving the Kingdom today.

Yesterday was Singh’s last day at the Indian Embassy. He, along with his wife, is set to return to India to settle down in New Delhi. Singh will be replaced by Meera Sisodia.

During his career as a diplomat, which spans over 35 years, Singh has worked in numerous countries, including Canada, Afghanistan, Germany and Kazakhstan.

In an interview with DT News, Singh revealed that Bahrain was his best experience professionally as well as personally.

“Before coming to Bahrain, I did not know much about this place, but after serving here, I am finding it extremely difficult to leave; that is how much I have grown to love Bahrain,” he said.

“It has been such an exciting and wonderful experience. I find Bahraini people to be extremely friendly and warm; they are large-hearted people. I have been to many countries but the kind of cooperation and friendly attitude I have witnessed in the people here is something that is unparalleled. I can easily say I have more friends in Bahrain than in any other countries that I have worked,” he commented.

“I must also appreciate and commend the Bahraini authorities. I have been in contact with the Ministry of Labour and the LMRA besides immigration, jail, hospital and airport authorities. All of them have been very cooperative and supportive. I never had any problems with the authorities here in Bahrain. They always come forward to help and I have had a great relationship with them,” he noted.

He added that the Indian expatriates have a great role to play in promoting peace and development in the Kingdom.

“Indians are considered here as hardworking and sincere and they are liked and respected. They should continue this legacy in the future and should work for peace and development of India as well as Bahrain,” Singh said.

“Bahrain-India bilateral relationship has always been very good. There is a lot of potential, both sides can work together to take it to further heights,” he added.
