MP wants licences for online food sellers

Manama : An independent parliamentarian called for issuing special licences allowing individuals to sell food online.

MP Adel Al Assoomy, who represents Hoora and Gudaibiya areas, said in a press statement issued yesterday that “home-produced food should be banned from being sold through social media networks.”

Al Assoomy justified his proposal to the “unavailability of health requirements, which threatens the safety of consumers”.

The parliamentarian said the proposal aims at obliging those who wish to practice producing food at home to obtain the necessary permits from the concerned authorities to ensure the safety of their products for consumption and to protect consumers.

Al Assoomy’s proposal was supported by four fellow MPs, who submitted it along with him. The MPs were Hamad Al Dossary, Ghazi Al Rahma, Abdulhameed Al Najjar and Mohsen Al Bakry.
