Bahrain Minister vows to protect labour rights

Manama : Bahrain will do its best to fight any sort of discrimination, assured Labour and Social Development Minister Jameel Humaidan, adding that the country is keen to ensure healthy and safe work environment for all workers, protect their rights and encourage growth and productivity.

The minister was inaugurating the Labour Day 2016 celebrations at the Indian Club on Sunday. 

“We shall always share this great respect for each other, and work together to keep Bahrain the best place to work, live and invest,” Humaidan said.

“My message to you today is: celebrate your hard work, your contributions in our economy and your labour rights, which will always be protected in this country,” Minister Humaidan added. 

“It is a pleasure to be part of your special annual celebration. It’s a great day to express Bahrain’s appreciation for your hard work and productivity,” he stated.

The Minister honoured officials and sponsors, including Crown Electro Mechanical Services Director, S Inayadullah. 

DT News Chief Editor Soman Baby was one of the guest speakers. 

The Labour Day event, which was attended by hundreds of workers, was organised by the Indian club in association with the Tamil community in Bahrain. 

The celebration started with a full day of activities that included a wide range of sports, lunch and dinner for everyone and a number of services   including legal advice and medical check-ups.

The minister, other guests and all the expatriate workers were treated with an evening of exciting multi-cultural performances from a wide range of local performers, including a number of young dancers from the Tamil community. 

Indian Club President Anand Lobo, General Secretary T.S Ashok Kumar, Programme Chairman K.T Ramraj and a number of other officials took part the event.
