Baslar, Alsaie shine in karting

Manama : Ali Baslar and Khaled Alsaie kept their title hopes alive after winning a race each in the seventh and penultimate round of the 2015/2016 Bahrain Sprint SWS Championship last weekend at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir.

The finale is on this Friday with the SWS part of a packed programme in the Bahrain Karting Sprint Championship (BKSC) at the BIKC’s 1.414-kilometre Commission Internationale de Karting track.

Baslar won the meeting’s opening event held around BIKC’s 1.414-kilometre Commission Internationale de Karting track; after which Alsaie powered to a fine victory in race two.

Going into the final round a thrilling race for the season’s SWS crown has developed with Baslar (280 points) leading, followed in second by Alsaie (272) and joined by third contender Abdulla Buhindi (271) with all drivers looking for maximum points and the SWS title.

It was also the same three competitors who were battling it out for a podium place in the previous round.

Baslar outpaced 17 other karters to claim pole position for race one and registered a fastest lap of one minute 12.339 seconds during qualifying and won race one in 13 minutes 37.179 seconds, runner-up was Buhindi (+0.972 seconds) and Alsaie (+1.387) third.

The remaining fourth to eighth positions were, Hussain Hassan (+1.721), Ahmed Ebrahim (+7.160), Tarryn Pods (+7.529), Craig Wood (+10.211) and Hussain Alkhateb (+10.893).

In race two, Alsaie (13:35.097) triumphed ahead of runner-up Buhindi (+0.175) with Baslar (+0.277) completing the podium.

The rest of the top eight comprised, Ebrahim (+3.065), Alkhateb (+3.204), Pods (+3.616), Anthony Genocchio (+3.862) and Aabed Faraj (+14.524).

At the end of action all the winners received their respective trophies in a podium ceremony held at BIKC. Friday’s action will also feature races in the sixth and final meeting of this year’s Bahrain Rotax Mojo Max Challenge (BRMMC).

The BRMMC is the BKSC’s competition category exclusively for Rotax kart owners and the last round, the BRMMC will have two titles up for grabs with the Max/Max Masters crown and the Junior Max
trophy.
