Bahrain St Christopher’s School swim to victory

Manama : St Christopher’s School Bahrain dominated the girls swimming competition yesterday at the Third Mini School Olympics yesterday and over the two-day event, won 22 medals in total, comprising seven gold, seven silver and eight bronze.

Roma Vrijhof gave St. Christopher’s School its maiden medal of the day at the Bahrain Swimming Association in Isa Town, where she raced to victory in the 50m freestyle in 29.34 seconds and edged out Arabella Rushton (30.61) from the same school for silver and fellow school pupli, Laura Adamson (32.16) the bronze.

Roma (15.96 seconds) was again victorious in the 25m backstroke to complete her double as St Christopher’s swimmers also won silver and bronze through Ayse Atak (17.02) and Eve Kenna (17.81).

In the primary stage, Mahika Chatterjee of the British School claimed a double victory in winning the 50m freestyle event clocking 31.65 seconds for gold, ahead of St Christopher’s pair of Asma Le Falher (32.99) and Olivia Shepherd-Smith (36.09) for silver and bronze.

Mahika (14.65) then the 25m freestyle in a tough race against Ala’a Adel (15.14) of Abdulrahman Kanoo International School for silver and Asma Le Falher (15.45) the bronze.

Mini School action continues today with the finals of the boys football championships at the Bahrain Football Association grounds in Riffa, in addition to the final round of matches in the secondary stage girls championship.

In the secondary stage boys football championship, AMA and Al Taawon Schools face off for the title. Al Taawon made it to the final after beating Al Naseem School 1-0, while AMA edged Al Noor School 2-1. In the intermediate stage, Riffa School take on Kanoo International School for the gold medal after a 6-1 victory over Sacred Heart School while Kanoo International School beat AMA School 2-0 in the other semi-final.

The concluding day of the secondary stage girls round robin took championship will take place at Riffa Club gym in Hunainiya where three no-bearing matches are scheduled. Having secured the title on the penultimate day of competition, Al Maarifa will look to finish unbeaten today when they take on New Millennium School, while other matches feature Al Noor School against Omayma School and AMA School with Al Hekma School.
