Al Maarifa crowned football champions

Manama : Al Maarifa Commercial School were crowned winners of the secondary stage girls football championship at the Third School Mini Olympics yesterday, in the concluding round of matches of single round robin girls competition, played at Riffa Club gym in Hunainiya.

They had already secured the title on the penultimate day of the championship after a 1-1 draw with runners-up Al Hekma International School and finished in style winning the concluding game against bronze medallists New Millennium 4-0, while Al Hekma registered a 4-0 win against AMA.

AMA boys clinch title

The boys finals were exciting as AMA edged Al Taawon 3-2 on penalties to clinch the secondary stage title at the Bahrain Football Association in Riffa.

AMA made it to the final after beating Al Noor International School 2-1, setting up their title clash with Al Taawon, who edged past Al Naseem School 1-0 in the other semi-final match.

Al Naseem rounded off the podium by winning their third-place tie against Al Noor International School 6-2.

In the intermediate stage, Kanoo International School captured the competition’s gold medal after a 3-1 penalty shoot-out victory over Riffa School in a closely contested affair with both teams tied 1-1 at the end of regular time, while Sacred Heart School clinched bronze with a 3-0 win over AMA in the third-place match.

Riffa School reached the title clash beating Sacred Heart School 6-1, while Kanoo International School defeated AMA School 2-0 in the semi-final matches.

The swimming concluded at the Bahrain Swimming Association premises in Isa Town with 12 primary and intermediate stages boys races. Ali Sadeq of the Sacred Heart School stole the show, winning the 50m freestyle and 25m butterfly primary stage
races. 

He first raced to win the 50m freestyle in 29.13, edging silver medallist Liam Marshall of the British School (31.05) and bronze medallist Sean Powell (34.05) of New Millennium School. Late on, Ali claimed the 25m butterfly gold in 14.29 seconds. Liam (15.04) was again second and Salman Habib (16.65) third.

Meanwhile, the curtain comes down on the Third Mini School Olympics today with a closing ceremony at 10.50am at Isa Sports City’s Bahrain Volleyball Association gym in Riffa.
