Bahrain jails Lebanese woman for swindling Australian man

Manama : A Lebanese con artist accused of deceiving an Australian man has had her jail term upheld. The defendant is involved in many fraud cases, deceiving several individuals by claiming that she was serving in a local lawyer’s office.

The Australian man, who was added to the travel ban lists due to a traffic case against him, was promised by the woman to help remove his name from the list. Then the 40-year-old woman requested him to pay BD5,000. She took the money from him and gave him a receipt with the name of the lawyer printed on it.

According to court files, the victim discovered after four days that the woman was only an impostor and she wasn’t working with any lawyer.

The defendant was sentenced to one year behind bars, but was granted BD100 bail, pending the outcome of her appeal.

It’s worth noting that she was specialised in deceiving Australian nationals, managing to embezzle amounts up to BD12,000. She was sentenced earlier to three years in prison in one of the cases against her.
