Bahrain jails Asian man for murder
Manama : An Asian man accused of stabbing another Asian man to death during a brawl has been sentenced to seven years in prison.
Two other men stood trial in the same case, but were given only three years and one year behind bars. The defendants were involved in the brawl that broke out between 120 labourers belonging to Punjab and Bihar sects in 2014.
The police officers found the victim lying in a pool of blood when they arrived at the spot. He was declared dead on the way to hospital, and the three men were arrested in connection with the case.
During the interrogation, the first defendant admitted to attacking the victim, but denied having intention to kill him. The knife that was used by the first defendant in the crime was recovered from a trash bin.
The second defendant was also involved in attacking the victim, but the third accused had reportedly only insulted some men during the fight.
The High Criminal Court’s ruling indicated that it found the second man guilty of assaulting the victim, but he didn’t stab him with the knife. “The first defendant was the one who caused the death of the victim, and this was confirmed by the medical report issued in this respect,” the court ruling read.
