Tubli residents complain of stray dogs’ menace
Manama : With the rising menace of stray dogs in Tubli, people are demanding serious action to reduce the animals’ population. Residents in the area near Shaikha Khalil Kanoo Mosque (Road No: 1119) are the most affected by "noisy barks and other nuisance".
According to them, even though there are programmes to bring down the number of stray dogs, they are ineffective. The dogs often fight in the street and the noise is enough to prevent the people from sleeping.
“There are so many dogs wandering in our area. They keep on barking and running behind children and people residing here. We are afraid of stepping out of the house as they come barking towards us. We are unable to go for our joggings and children can’t play in the open grounds,” Karima Abdul Rahman, a mother of two children, told DT News.
“The dogs move in a group of four or five. They bark and try to attack pedestrians on the road. The situation is even worse at night. There is always a fear of dog bite,” she said.
Commenting on the issue, an Asian man said: “We have seen children and adults trying to get rid of these stray dogs by throwing stones at them. People should not throw stones at them, as there are higher chances of the dogs later biting them. Food and meat waste from houses are dumped inside the garbage bins. So dogs get food easily and this increases the chance of breeding.”
“The authorities should look into this issue seriously. These dogs can be shifted to a rehabilitation centre or any other suitable place where they feel safe and secure,” he added.
