80m barrels imported from Saudi in 2015

Manama : Bahrain imported around 80 million crude oil barrels from Saudi Arabia in 2015, a senior State official stated.

Minister of Energy Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza said in recently issued statements that a total of 78,711,342 barrels were imported from Saudi Arabia last year, with a total import cost of US$3,950,725,592.61.

The Minister clarified that the amount is almost US$3 billion less than the total cost of import in 2014, considering the drop of crude oil prices.

This came with Dr. Mirza’s replies to parliamentary queries that were submitted by the council’s Financial and Economic Affairs Committee Head Abdulrahman Buali.

The MP had asked the Minister about the number of crude oil barrels bought by the Ministry from Saudi Arabia in 2014-2015. He also inquired about the cost of refining each barrel and whether the financial profits are pumped into the state budget.

On his part, the Minister confirmed that all incomes of the oil industry are deposited in the state’s public account through the Ministry of Finance.

More details will be disclosed during the coming Parliament weekly meeting on Tuesday.
