HRH PM to inaugurate power project at Hidd

Manama: Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa will inaugurate work on a 400 KV electricity transmission line on May 11. The ceremony, to be held under HRH the Prime Minister’s patronage, will be organised at the Hidd Power station.

In a statement yesterday, Energy Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza said the facility is one of a series of projects implemented by the government with the aim of keeping pace with the needs of citizens and residents, and in keeping with the increase in population as well as people’s needs.

The Minister said: “It is one of the most vital projects implemented by the Electricity and Water Authority. The next few years will see three major electricity transfer stations also being built.”

The project aims to reduce “short circuits” and would ensure the safe operation of the equipment to transfer electrical energy from production plants to load centres throughout Bahrain effectively. It would meet all the needs of development and facilitate the exchange of electric power with the GCC network.

The BD180-million project consists of four work packages and is being implemented by the German company Siemens. Prysmian Group, from Italy, and another company from Japan are supplying the transmission lines.

The Korean company, Hyundai, is supplying the transformers. The entire project is scheduled for completion by the end of next year.
