Al Jazayer Beach development urged

Manama: A parliamentarian has called for quick solutions to develop Al Jazayer Beach in the southwest parts of the island.

MP Mohsen Al Bakry has urged Southern Area Municipality to develop the public beach soon, after the responsibility was given to a private company a few years ago.

“Edamah Investment Company acquired the property more than six years ago and has not paid a fils to develop it as promised earlier. The beach became a hub for illegal activities now, as no maintenance or cleaning processes are taking place there, forcing people to slowly abandon it,” Al Bakry stated.

The lawmaker claimed that the company wasn’t cooperating with the Southern Area Municipal Council regarding the development of the beach. He expressed that “this disregard from the company’s side is feared to be intentional to slowly transform the beach into a private property and prevent citizens and residents from using it.”

Al Bakry pleaded to Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa to interfere and save one of the main public beaches in the Kingdom.

He reiterated his demand to return the property of the beach to the government, represented by the Southern Area Municipality.

The lawmaker added that developing the beach would have positive financial impacts on the economy, boost tourism and create job openings for citizens.
