Bahrain MP bats for renewable energy to curb spending
Manama : With a view to reducing the spending in the field of energy production, the House of Representatives’ Economic and Financial Affairs Committee Head, Abdulrahman Buali said Bahrain should seriously consider utilising renewable energy to overcome economic difficulties.
The lawmaker yesterday presented a proposal that’s instructing to utilise renewable energy, such as solar energy, to produce electricity in the Kingdom.
Noting the increasing economic challenges endured by Bahrain presently, Buali said: “Instead of borrowing money to establish power plants and adding to the debts of the country, we should consider constructing plants that are operated by solar energy.
He commented, “Being entangled within these debts for years would definitely have a negative impact on the future of our country and the coming generations. We must preserve our resources and utilise modern methods to produce energy.”
The MP also pointed out that in addition to cutting spending on energy production, the proposal would reduce pollution and preserve the country’s strategic stocks of fuels by depending on renewable energy to produce electricity.
He added, “The proposal would serve five purposes including, reducing spending on electricity production, utilising renewable (solar) energy, lessening electricity services’ fees on establishments and individuals, following modern energy production methods and curb pollution.”
Buali’s proposal was submitted to the council’s Speaker Ahmed bin Ibrahim Al Mulla yesterday. It would be soon referred to the concerned parliamentary committee for more studying.
