Bahrain National Library official attends MetLib meet

Manama : The Director of the Bahrain National Library at the Isa Cultural Centre, Dr Mansour Sarhan attended the 48th Metropolitan Libraries (MetLib) Conference, hosted by Qatar National Library (QNL) in Doha, Qatar. 

MetLib 2016 Qatar recently brought together with leading industry professionals and librarians to explore key trends and challenges within the information services sector.

Under the overarching theme of “Pearls In The Desert: Unleashing Potential,” QNL, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), welcomed regional delegates from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to the conference for the first time since its inception.

Dr Sarhan said: “MetLib 2016 Qatar has an important role in increasing collaboration among libraries across all regions in the world. The conference has given us a vital platform for networking and the participants represent many nationalities and countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America.” 

 “MetLib 2016 Qatar will have a positive effect on librarians visiting from MENA. The conference presents many opportunities for sharing and learning from the advanced case studies,” he remarked.

MetLib 2016 Qatar aimed to explore vital topics related to librarianship through a series of insightful presentations and discussions. 

In her opening remarks, QNL’s Project Director, Dr Claudia Lux, said: “MetLib 2016 Qatar presents an extraordinary opportunity for the region’s information service industry and its progress towards nurturing innovation and creativity. It serves as an important platform for public and metropolitan libraries from around the world to exchange ideas, share knowledge and address key challenges facing the industry today.”

Senior representatives from the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), which represents the global voice of the library and information services professions, are also attending the conference.
