Bahrain jails two men for defaming sect
Manama : The Lower Criminal Court yesterday sentenced two defendants to one year in jail for defaming a sect and committing immoral acts.
Commenting on the case, prosecutor Abdullah Al Thawadi said that the court also ordered the confiscation of the convicts’ mobile phones.
The accused appeared in a video recording in which they defamed a sect and made indecent gestures, which prompted the Directorate of Anti-corruption and Economic and Electronic Security to alert the Public Prosecution.
Al Thawadi said that the two defendants were identified, arrested and searched under a warrant issued by the Public Prosecution. The Public Prosecution confronted them with the video recording, during their interrogation, and ordered them in custody pending trial.
