Bahrain release Zainab Al Khawaja
Manama : The Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday announced that two women prisoners of foreign nationality were released on humanitarian grounds.
Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Ambassador Abdulla Abdullatif Abdulla said they have been released as they were staying in prison along with their children.
Zainab Abdulhadi Al Khawaja, who was sentenced to three years and one month, has a child aged one year and four months, while Arina Bajtova, who received a jail term of two years and 10 days, has a child aged about four years.
The reports prepared with the knowledge of the Secretariat of the Ombudsman of both the convicts confirmed that each of them have been housed in separate rooms in a dedicated ward for mothers.
The Ministry said the prison facility provided all means of comfort and care for children, in addition to periodic medical examinations.
But due to the humanitarian situation of the children, it was decided to stop the implementation of the restrictive punishment for freedom of each of them, the Ministry said.
