Preparations set for Olympic Day

Manama : Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) is putting the finishing touches on the 2016 Olympic Day with a first-of-its-kind 10-day packed programme, following an announcement yesterday at its premises in Seef.

The BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar and organising committee chairman Hasan Abdullatif revealed updates on this year’s event and a detailed programme of the activities, which aims to promote Olympic values and will feature a variety of sports activities, including five walkathons races to be organised all over Bahrain.

The first walkathon is scheduled for Saturday and organised by the Northern Governorate starting at 5pm from inside the Budaiya Coast Park. The Capital Governorate will then host the second walkathon three days later on May 17 near Fatma Kanoo Mosque and the Bahrain Map roundabout from 5pm, followed on May 21 from Riffa Views walkway in the Southern Governorate. The fourth Walkathon is on May 24 from Dohat Arad in Muharraq, while the fifth and final one will take place on the concluding day of the programme at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir.

Other activities include a volleyball event on May 16 at the Bahrain Sports for Disabilities Federation Hall at Isa Sports City in Riffa, an ex football players tournament on May 18 at Khalifa Sports City Hall in Isa Town, and a swimming championship on May 23 at the Bahrain Swimming Association premises in Isa Town.
