Reduce security in Capital’s waters : Bahrain MP

Manama : A lawmaker called for easing offshore security measures in the waters near the Capital to revive marine tourism.

MP Adel Hameed called upon security authorities to allow sailing during night hours at certain places near the capital and its suburbs, after it was banned since the sad events of 2011.

The MP said in a proposal that was submitted yesterday to the Parliament Speaker’s Office, “The efforts of security authorities in securing the waters and combating smuggling are highly appreciated and supported. The proposal calls for alleviating security procedures at certain areas without affecting public security.”

While speaking to DT News yesterday, Hameed elaborated, “No one is allowed to sail between 6pm and 6am. I suggest  to revamp the checkup operations of Coast Guard patrols in certain areas such as between Shaikh Isa and Shaikh Hamad bridges (old and new Muharraq bridges), Juffair and other areas, where citizens, residents and tourists could enjoy cruises and sceneries.”

“This would encourage investors to establish marine tourism companies in the country, contributing in boosting tourism and the entire economy. Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry should look into the matter,” he noted.

“Marine tourism shouldn’t be paralysed like this, especially on an archipelago. South East Asians that have similar geographical nature to Bahrain are significantly depending on marine tourism to support their economies,” Hameed added.
