'No more seats at Indian School Bahrain'

Manama : Owing to the class size limit imposed by the authorities, The Indian School, Bahrain (ISB) is currently unable to accept more students.

“ISB has exceeded the number of students permitted in its classes. Therefore, we will not be accepting more students at the moment,” a school official said yesterday.

Students from other schools in Bahrain, who want to switch school, have an even slimmer chance of getting admission at the ISB. “The school has exceeded the permitted number of students in all the classes. However, we are allowed to admit children coming from India only, if vacancies arise when students leave from the school,” ISB Principal V.R. Palaniswamy stated in an email to DT News

According to a source, students from others schools in Bahrain have almost no chance of getting admission at the ISB. “The school has 40 students in all its classrooms and 40 is the maximum a classroom can accommodate. It is the limit set by the Ministry. Even when the seats open up due to students leaving, the students wishing to transfer from other schools in Bahrain are not likely to be accepted. The students coming from schools in India will be given preference,” a source from the school informed.

The Ministry of Education did not immediately comment on the matter when enquired. A detailed reply from the Ministry is awaited.

Seqaya resident, Kamal Mohiyuddin, said he was disappointed that his children were not allowed to switch to the school of his preference. He said he wanted to transfer his children from a school in Sitra to the ISB.

“For various reasons, I do not want my kids to continue studying there. I want them to transfer schools. I know another family in the same situation, they want to transfer their children to the ISB, but cannot,” he added.
