Bahrain jails man for insulting MPs online
Manama : The High Criminal Appeals Court has sentenced a man to three months behind bars for insulting the House of Representatives online. The defendant was reported to the police by the Speaker of the Parliament after he was found posting insulting remarks against all the MPs on social media app Instagram.
The defendant confessed during interrogation that he was responsible of posting the defamatory comments. “I got annoyed when the MPs approved the budget as it shows that they weren’t aware of the citizens’ hardships. They didn’t live up to their promises after they were elected,” he told prosecutors. He was accused of degrading the Parliament online.
