Bahrain’s firm stance against terrorism stressed

New York :  Bahrain has reiterated its unflinching position in renunciation of all forms of terrorism, regardless of the motives, the perpetrator or funder. This was mentioned in a statement by the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations, Ambassador Jamal Fares Al Ruwaie, addressing the UN Security Council’s open debate on combating terrorist organizations’ ideological discourse yesterday.

He said that His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa had stressed that Bahrain was proud of the sound reputation of Al Azhar Al Sharif, its pioneering role on the Islamic arena.

During the session, chaired by the Foreign Minister of Egypt and President of the UN Security Council for the month of May, Sameh Shokri, Al Ruwaie said that the response to terrorist groups required continued multilateral efforts at military and security fronts. “Also on the ideological front by fighting their extremist and inhumane thought that defaces the teachings and noble principles of Islam.”

He also called for drying out terrorist groups’ funds and reducing their capacity to recruit foreign terrorist fighters. “The Kingdom of Bahrain is dealing with terrorism and terror organisations in accordance with the existing laws.”

Citing the practical steps made by Bahrain in this context, Ambassador Al Ruwaie mentioned the many deterrent laws and regulations Bahrain had enacted to combat terrorism. He also reminded of its effective participation in the international military campaign, the Action Task Group and Special Contact Group within the International Coalition against Daesh.

He also touched on the Kingdom’s host in 2014 of the International Conference on Combating the Financing of Terrorism.
