Bahrain jails man for shooting police
Manama : The Supreme Appeals Court has upheld the jail term of a man accused in connection with a shooting case. He was earlier sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The accused allegedly fired three shots at police officers during a riot that broke out in Sitra. Around 90 saboteurs took part in the event, attacking police officers assigned to secure Sitra Police Station.
But none of the police officers in the scene were wounded.
The accused’s identity was established during police investigation. During interrogation, he said he had communicated on BlackBerry with a group named “Al Mahdioon”, which provided him with a handgun.
The defendant was charged with possessing a gun without a licence, disturbing the public order, participating in an illegal gathering and using firebombs.
