Bahrain frees teenager in arson case

Manama : The High Criminal Court has acquitted a 15-year-old student of arson case due to lack of evidence. The defendant was tried for setting fire on a waste container during a riot in Ras Ruman.

Around 15 masked protesters took part in the sabotage, where they blocked the roads with stones and waste containers.

Moreover, they attacked police officers by pelting rockets at them. Later, the mob was dispersed, but the suspect was arrested from the scene.

However, the Bahraini teenager denied having links with the event, stating that he was nabbed while he was returning home from Ras Ruman Club.

He was charged with arson, putting lives and their properties at risk and participating in an illegal gathering.

“The defendant pleaded not guilty and he affirmed that he was walking back to his home when he was arrested. The court considers his story to be genuine and valid, while the court documents came without any solid evidence against him. Therefore, the defendant has been found not guilty,” the court ruling stated.
