Bahrain Athletics team victory hailed by Askar
Manama : Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar has congratulated the Bahrain Athletics Association on the Bahrain team winning the recent 17th Junior Arab Championships in Tlemcen, Algeria.
Bahrain clinch 20 medals (14 gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze) in total at this major regional competition, which brought together 15 countries from around the Arab region.
Tunisia were second in the standings with 22 medals (9 gold, 9 silver and 4 bronze) and hosts Algeria with 39 medals (7 gold, 16 silver and 16 bronze) third.
Askar said the achievement was a result of the continued support of Shaikh Nasser, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Work and Youth Affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman, to the Bahraini athletes. He also commended the efforts of the Bahrain Athletics Association and its president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, first vice-chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports.
