Bahrain court upholds jail term for Malkiya riot accused

Manama: The Supreme Appeals Court has upheld the three years imprisonment issued against a defendant accused in a security case.

The accused was among three suspects implicated in rioting in Malkiya.

All the defendants received equal jail terms, and they were also fined BD500 each.

They were initially accused of attacking a police officer, but no evidence was found to support this charge, and thus the court dropped it.

Around 80 miscreants took part in the riot in Malkiya, where they blocked the roads with containers and stones.

When police officers arrived, they attacked them with firebombs, stones and iron rods.

A police officer was injured in the attack, but none of the defendants were found to be implicated in wounding him.
