Bahrain court adjourns appeal of murder suspect

Manama : The Supreme Appeals Court adjourned hearing the appeal of a person convicted in a murder case until June 9.

The defendant, aged 20, is being tried for killing a Bahraini man, in his early 20s.

Earlier, the man had claimed that he stabbed the victim on his chest after the latter sprayed foam on his face. The duo engaged in a fatal quarrel, which, the defendant said, started with jokes.

“I threw flour at him when he sprayed foam on me. But then he suddenly got angry and started attacking me,” the defendant told prosecutors earlier.

“I went to my car from where I took a knife. Then I returned and stabbed him,” he added.

One of their mutual friends was also present when the incident took place. He said he tried to stop the defendant, who threatened to stab him as well.

“I went to him in a bid to hold him back, but he threatened he would stab me if I touched him,” the friend told prosecutors. The accused surrendered himself to the police, immediately after his victim was declared dead.

“A crime scene investigation unit and a forensic team were immediately sent to the location to collect evidence. After the suspect surrendered to the police, the case was referred to the Public Prosecution,” a police statement said.
