Bahrain’s bakery serves over 3000 Syrian families

Manama : Bahrain has built an automatic bakery for Syrian refugees in Lebanon, in a bid to assist them during the humanitarian crises they’re going through.

Producing around 42,000 loaves of bread a day, the bakery serves over 3000 Syrian families who are currently staying in a refugee camp in Bar Elias area in Lebanon.

Charity works department in Al Eslah Islamic Society here in Bahrain said the project was supported by the donations of the people of Bahrain and aims at providing the displaced people of Syria with their daily requirements.

The department’s Executive Director Shaikh Tariq Taha Al Shaikh said the bakery serves the refugees in Bar Elias Camp and the surrounding refugee camps in the area.

“It’s a lifeline for the displaced refugees who are suffering the scourge of the civil war in Syria. Besides delivering bread loaves to the shelters in the camp, the bakery also provides refugees with jobs by engaging the women in the production process of the bread and other baking activities,” Al Shaikh confirmed.

Al Shaikh called upon citizens and residents in Bahrain to donate and support the projects of the society to help distressed people across the world.

He added, “Our Syrian brothers and sisters are suffering in refugee camps, which lack many humanitarian conditions. The Holy Month of Ramadan is approaching and they’re in dire need of our support. The society could be reached on the hotline 36006166 and website www.khairiya.org or by visiting one of the many branches of the society in Muharraq, Riffa, Hidd, Arad or Umm Al Hassam.

Beginning early 2011, the Syrian civil war has killed over 360,000 people, according to the latest figures released by international organisations, including the United Nations. This pushed millions of Syrians to seek refuge in other countries like Jordan, Lebanon and the European Union countries.
