Bahrain Olympic Day: Running race today

Manama : The second running race of the 2016 Olympic Day is set to take place today in the Capital Governorate in Manama organised by the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) and part of the two-week Olympic Day activities to join the world in celebrating this special occasion.

Three days after the Northern Governorate organised the inaugural race of the Olympic Day, the Capital Governorate has finalised its preparations for the second race, which starts at 5pm from Tubli Bay walkway near Fatima Kanoo Mosque.

It feature races in four different age categories –6-8 years, 9-11, 12-14 and 15 and above, followed by an awarding ceremony after the races with the top three athletes in each race receiving their respective medals.

Capital Governor Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa commended the efforts of patron of the event, Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman and BOC President, by involving different segments of the Bahrain society in such programmes.

Shaikh Hisham asserted his governorate’s commitment to promote the concept of cooperation among the community by organising and supporting a variety of activities.

BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar expressed pride for this partnership with the Capital Governorate in bringing these Olympic Day activities which is celebrated all over the world by organising a set of sports and entertaining programmes that target the entire community.

He noted that having these activities in all of Bahrain’s four governorates for the first time this year would certainly contribute to the success of the Olympic Day.
