Bahrain acquits man of smuggling Marijuana

Manama : The High Criminal Court acquitted a Bangladeshi man of smuggling marijuana due to lack of evidence, although the defendant was nabbed in possession of the illicit drug.

The latter was arrested at the Bahrain International Airport after he was caught having marijuana hidden in a food container.

Customs officials said the accused was thoroughly searched after they suspected him of misconduct.

The Bangladeshi national, however, insisted that he wasn’t aware of the container contents.

He said it was given to him by someone in his hometown, who requested it to be delivered to a man in Bahrain.

The defendant was put on trial over accusations of smuggling marijuana with intention to sell.

Judges at the High Criminal Court supported the man’s claims, underlining that there was no proof that the man was aware of the drugs inside the container.
