Knowledge of Bahrain’s history key for citizenship
Manama : A parliamentarian has called for quizzing applicants for the Bahraini citizenship, to determine their knowledge of Bahrain’s history. MP Mohammed Al Maarifi and a group of fellow MPs submitted a Law Proposal to amend Article 6 of Law 1963 regarding the Bahraini citizenship.
They said that “those who apply for Bahraini citizenship should prove their knowledge of Bahrain by passing a number of examinations on the Bahraini history and society.”
Al Maarifi said in a statement issued yesterday that “this would contribute in stabilising the Bahraini society and its traditions and habits.” He also said that the proposal wouldn’t affect the right of foreigners in applying for the Bahraini citizenship in accordance with the regulating laws and legislations.
