Butcher jacks up meat price, gets BD500 fine
Manama : An Asian butcher was fined BD500 yesterday for selling subsidised meat at a higher price.
The defendant was put on trial on charges of increasing the prices of a government-subsidised item in violation of the local regulations.
It is reported that the man was selling 1kg sheep meat at BD1.200, while the government has set its selling price at BD1.
In September, another Asian butcher was fined BD10 for refusing to sell subsidised meat to customers.
The Indian defendant allegedly declined orders from customers to buy the meat as he was reserving the quantity to unidentified buyers. He was caught by the Ministry of Health inspectors.
