'Give me death penalty' : Murderer tells Bahrain court
Manama : In a bizarre incident, an Asian man suspected of murdering his roommate appealed yesterday to the High Criminal Court to award him the death penalty. The Bangladeshi man had slaughtered his Hindu roommate as he allegedly insulted Islam, the High Criminal Court had heard earlier. The 29-year-old suspect is said to have used a knife to cut the neck of his colleague, also from Bangladesh, after he stabbed him several times to death.
After the murder, he rushed to a nearby mosque and informed people that he had killed his roommate. He was later arrested after one of the worshipers called up police. “He was covered with blood and holding a knife. He was abnormal and screaming. He said he had killed a man. Some worshipers tried to calm him down. Then he sat down and cried,” a witness told prosecutors, according to court documents.
According to initial investigations, the man said that he committed the crime because his Hindu roommate was continually degrading Islam despite his warnings.
The murder, according to court files, occurred at dawn when both of them men awoke. “He insulted the God, and I got so angry. I rushed to the kitchen and took a big knife. I stabbed him in his body and neck,” the accused explained.
The defendant has been charged with deliberate murder. He is facing life in prison or death sentence.
The High Criminal Court yesterday ordered for him to be detained for 15 days, pending investigations.
