Bahrain revamp 700 houses in two years
Manama : Giving a new ray of hope for citizens, who are living in ramshackle houses, a project by the Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry brings in relief and smile on their faces.
The authorities yesterday confirmed in an official statement that 700 dilapidated houses had been revamped since 2014 and 125 would be refurbished this year.
Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry said the project total cost is BD 6 million, out of which BD 2.4 million is spent this year.
The Ministry’s Joint Municipal Works Assistant Undersecretary Raed Al Salah stated that the project comes within the government’s plans to develop towns and villages.
“The government is concerned about the project as it serves a large segment of citizens of the low-income category,” Al Salah said.
Since the launch, the project has been implemented by the Ministry’s Urban Development Directorate in coordination with municipal councils in all different governorates.
The official explained that requests are electronically submitted to municipal councils and works are initiated in accordance with the severity of houses’ conditions.
According to Al Salah, the revamps include internal refurbishments and decorations, building rooms and extensions and fixing rain insulators.
He said that 2,634 homes had been revamped under the project since 2007 with a total cost of BD 22.8 million.
Al Saleh added that the project received positive response from citizens and municipal councils, as it’s enhancing the lives of citizens and serves the goals of the reforms project of His Majesty the King.
