Bahrain jails man for possessing gun, drugs
Manama : The High Criminal Court has sentenced a 25-year-old Bahraini man to five years in prison for possessing a handgun and several types of illicit drugs.
He was also fined BD 1,500 for his crime. The Bahraini man was nabbed after he reportedly tried to kill a fellow countryman, who provided him a free ride in his vehicle. He is said to have pointed the gun at the victim, who had transported him from Umm Al Hassam to Hamad Town.
But the latter managed to control him and unload the bullets from the gun. “He requested me to give him a lift. I accepted, but as soon as we reached the village of Burri, he took out a gun. But I could hold his hand and take the gun from him. Then I removed the bullets from inside,” the victim said.
When the police officers arrived at the scene and arrested him, it turned out that he was in an inebriated condition. The defendant was also caught in possession of marijuana and hashish.
“I got drunk inside a hotel. I left the hotel by my car but I crashed the vehicle into another vehicle. So I hitchhiked a ride as I was very tired,” the 25-year-old Bahraini man told prosecutors.
