Bahrain court extends remand for drug smuggler
Manama: The High Criminal Court has renewed the remand of a Bangladeshi man accused of attempting to smuggle drugs into Bahrain by 10 days.
The suspect was nabbed upon his arrival at Bahrain International Airport, coming from Dhaka. He was caught in possession of marijuana that was hidden in his luggage.
According to court documents, the defendant wrapped the illicit drugs in a nylon bag, which was covered by a piece of cloth.
The Bangladeshi man, however, stated that he had nothing to do with the marijuana, pointing out that the package was given to him by a man in his hometown who requested him to deliver it to someone in Bahrain. The defendant is facing smuggling charges.
