Infant in court with murder accused parents
The detained mother delivered the 15-day-old girl, after prosecutors suspected her role in the death of the boy, in mysterious circumstances.
The mother sat in court with her daughter while the father was inside a glass cage.
The woman’s lawyer requested for bail due to her situation at the beginning of the hearing.
The husband blamed his wife for causing the death of the boy.
“I was with my other son at the hospital when she called me, informing me about his death.”
However his wife did not agree to his statement.
She requested judges to note the wounds on the child’s body, suggesting that the infant died due to torture. “There is no way I would beat a four-month-baby,” the father retorted.
The father, a Bahraini citizen of Arab origin, married his co-defendant first.
Later he tied the knot with his cousin (the dead boy’s mother). They later divorced due to discord. She then returned to her original country. The child remained in the custody of the father and stepmother.
According to court files, the child was taken to a hospital suffering from head injuries and vomiting.
He succumbed to his wounds four days later. The father told police that his wife had told him that the baby fell on his head.
However she gave a different account stating that the father punched his head as ‘the baby was crying a lot’.
