Bahrain Elite Speakers Toastmasters’ wins award

Manama : Bahrain Elite Speakers Toastmasters’ (BEST) “Dream” won the Best Play Award in “Massrahiya,” a short play contest organised by the WMC Toastmasters in association with Interads on Friday. 

Ahmed Mohd Saeed, who directed “Dream,” bagged the Best Director Award. Ahmed Mohd Saeed is very active in directing various stage plays at University of Bahrain. The actors in the play “Dream” are Jahangir Khan, Sulaiman Mir, Mary Sharon, Roya Adel, Muhanna, Aftab, Khurram Salman, Tarradah, Mudassir Ismail, Zainab (The Kid), Talha, Ali and Taranjot Singh. The Best Play gets a cash price of  $1,000. 

Other winners are as follows:  Best Script-Carrie Bell (Joining the Club); Best Actor:  Ashley Kingston (Joining the Club); Best Actor (2nd Place): Jay Killedar (Marriages are Made in Heaven) ; Best Actress: Sowsan Hasan (Joining the Club); Best Actress (2nd Place): Shruti Ramesh( Letting Go); Best Play (2nd Place – prize $500): Joining the Club; Best Play (3rd Place – price $ 250): Letting Go. Hussain Al Ansari, former General Manager of Bapco, gave away the award to BEST.

The contest saw eight teams presenting their plays to an enthusiastic audience of more than 500 theatre lovers. The jury comprised a panel of three eminent theatre personalities-   Charlotte Leap, Amer Al Kushf and PT Thomas. 

Speaking on the occasion, Hussain Al Ansari remarked, “Studying human communication and theatre is among the oldest disciplines of study in civilization, giving students an opportunity to understand and perform the essential activity of self expression.”

Roshni Pinto, President, WMC Toastmasters Club highlighted the innovative approach that WMC Toastmasters has always propagated as part of its communication and leadership programmes. 

Commenting on the contest, Ms. Charlotte Leap said, “Theatre helps in building self confidence, developing imagination and creative thinking skills. And most importantly communication skills, developing voice projection, articulation of words, language fluency, and persuasive speech.”
